With Arms Outstretched

For piano, first and second solo violins, viola and cello.

For those whose lives are touched by loss.

How a gentle tune arose from a period of violence remains a mystery. Perhaps it is in part an unconscious desire for healing, and a recognition that beauty can counter a time of intense sadness.

We open our arms in the hope we are accepted.

We hold those we care for, no matter what our difference.

It is warm with early summer as thunder rumbles through the dull-gold of morning light. Crows cor with the come and go of falling rain. The tingling drips drop gently, then, more densely as the shard and crack of cloud jostles to the earth. Soon the charge of sky moves off and birds begin their song.
