Solstice at Synthetic Observer is the longest single page on art and poetry I have created. The two artworks, including Summer Solstice, are left to speak for themselves, while the poetry is explored with a guide and extensive dialogue.
Here I will write a little about how I experience the artwork Summer Solstice. When I look towards the sun I often think of how thin our atmosphere is, and how at night it seems utterly transparent. In daylight this piece presents the hidden flow and rivers of energy that are our constant companions as we journey with our nearest star.
Although the poem 'On Moment One Moment Give' is a response to a synthetic poem, it nevertheless stands as an articulation of what solstice is to many humans: a celestial event lived with others.
The phrase “On moment” is important. It suggests not only being in a moment of time, but being on a moment understood spatially and physically: on Earth, on a rotating body, on a world held in tilt, force, and relation.
