From High Our Cultivated Spoil

The scratched, cracked and heavily textured surface of fields in Pinal County, Arizona, USA. Water is drawn from the Colorado River and deep within permeable rock, gravel, sand, and silt. Center-pivot irrigation systems leave their circular marks in the arid landscape.

Groundwater decreases when the rate of water extraction by irrigation exceeds the rate of recharge. Aquifers are depleted. The earth is left to heal far beyond the measure of our lives.

I am indebted to Planet Labs satellite imaging who provided the source material that was used to create this artwork.
